SP is definitely slower in terms of how quick can things get done. The 2020 version added a lot of features already familiar in previous versions of CA dwg ahead of time, but, openings not accurate (uses defaults) Terrains probably just as bad in both (I could spend more time on that)ĬA draws in groups, or based by room, once you enclose 4 walls you have a room, walls, ceilings and roofs are grouped in settingsĬad to walls in CA if you can set the layers in the. SP can be network install, CA can not (but, libraries can be saved to the cloud in CA)ĬA has a larger library base if you are into interiors Posting as guest, haven’t been here in a long time.īoth SP and CA are powerful enough to use as production tools for residential projects.īoth have an equal learning curve and quirksīoth have great things I wished the other one had!!īoth suck at linework but, both do the job, That’s why we still run LT I know what Chief can do and I know what Softplan can do. Your opinion may vary.Īs for the renderings, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the skill level is subject to the individual. Similar things will occur with Softplan but that subsequent learning curve is shorter- and easier in my opinion. Start trying to design any complicating aspect and you will find very quickly that you have a whole lot to learn before you will be successful. Chief is very easy to use right out of the box for "basic and simple" stuff. Your comment that "Chief wins as far as learning curve and renderings" isn't necessarily accurate. I get what I need with softplan but the bottom line is that I have to be responsible for understanding how to build something and the subsequent details. I don't expect any program to be able to fully comprehend what or how certain things go together so the need for 2D detailing is critical. With that said it is my personal belief that Softplan is easier to work with as I do a lot of details and Softplan gives me tools that don't exist in Chief. Not going to do it for you so you are responsible for the content and appearance. What do you mean by "plan sets"? Construction documents? If so then either program is quite capable of putting out whatever it is that you create.
